EXPLOSION PROOF, AND COMMON SURVAILLANCE EQUIPMENT OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY:

Counting the cost of an oil well investment is no easy feat; the numbers run high. Factor in the liability of the market, labor, the fluctuations of the price of oil, and the overall potential hazards that comes with the territory raises potential cost output by even more. Veilux Inc.’s years of experience with servicing the industry have taught us two things when trying to safeguard the investment: due diligence, and investing in an effective surveillance system.

Surveillance in the oil industry is vital to deter theft, optimize work place safe practices, and provide peace of mind. It all boils down to mitigating risk.  How much risk are you willing to endure to save a few dollars in the short term? What will your insurance premiums be if they notice mismanaged risk in an audit?

Oil Industry theft accounts for about $1 billion worth of annual losses. This is mostly expensive equipment like tools, drill bits, copper, piping, and other big ticket items. There are different strategies to countering theft that incurs like tagging the equipment with GPS tracking and establishing a bureaucratic system to keep better track of equipment while also putting up warning signs that the equipment is tagged. Yet, this doesn’t stop people from stealing. The best theft deterrent has always been security cameras. Given the nature of the business a lot of oil fields and industry centers are in very remote locations giving criminals the advantage and a false sense of security in their criminal activities. Not only will a surveillance system remove the blanket of criminal security, it will deter would be thieves because they know they are being watched day, and night with Infrared Red enabled cameras.

Today, picture quality is everything when recording training videos for new employees, recording workplace injuries, workplace mistakes, and monitoring what goes on at the field at any given moment 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year. Veilux IP cameras will give you everything you need to know regarding any incident that is observed. Oil pumps, are in remote locations, and getting surveillance cameras up and running can be a challenge, but with the proper placement  you can get a standalone mobile camera system hooked up to a radio transmitter allowing security personnel to have eyes on materials and equipment  from anywhere.  The possibilities are virtually endless.

Furthermore, introducing electronic equipment into potentially explosive environment puts not only your entire operation at risk, but also the lives of your crew. Explosion proof cameras are the solution to that risk. An explosion proof camera operates with traditional equipment whereby the difference is its camera housing. The housing effectively separates the outside atmosphere and the atmosphere of the camera so that if there is an electrical surge, or the module inside the house sparks it will not cause the flammable fumes outside to explode protecting your employees.

Yet, Murphy’s Law dictates, that whatever can go wrong will go wrong, and liability doesn’t stop at thieves. Work place injuries will always take place whether it is employee negligence, faulty equipment, or just bad luck. The idea behind workplace surveillance is to promote safe practices, ensure there are no fraudulent injuries in an employee’s claim, safeguard equipment, and certify that proper safety guidelines are adhered to.  Proper surveillance is protection against Murphy’s Law, because no matter what happens the footage will be there for the courts, for future employees under training, and to optimize workplace practices.
